This week we have a talk by the ever informative Ben Galton-Fenzi from the Australian Antarctic Division. Ben will be telling us all about the use of high performance computers (OK, let’s call them supercomputers) and how we can employ their awesome computing power to solve our research problems. Hobart is lucky in that we have our very own supercomputing facility in the form of the Tasmanian Partnership for Advanced Computing (TPAC) and thus getting to use one of these machines is pretty straightforward.
This talk should be a must-see for anyone with a need for serious computing power.
ALSO: Next week Roger Proctor from IMOS will be telling us about the brand new MARVL (the Marine Virtual Laboratory). I have had a preview of this exciting new tool and trust me, it is cool.
