This week, regular DaSHer Jim Vaughan, from Vaughan Computer Software Solutions, will be presenting a session on SQL (structured query language) for data analysis. Jim will give an introduction to relational database management systems and the use of SQL to retrieve, manipulate and analyse data. The talk will cover basic SQL commands, joining tables and aggregate functions, with an emphasis on how to use SQL for scientific and engineering solutions.
ALSO: Next week Roland Warner will be giving us an introduction and overview of the grand-daddy of programming languages: Fortran. Roland’s aim is to equip attendees with the basic understanding and skills to read and edit a fortran file as part of their research. The kick off date for our software carpentry sessions is now set for June 12. More details on what this means will be coming in the next week or so.
